On September 14, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Catherine H. “Nora” Murray, a career educator who had worked as the regional adviser for the student councils of Baltimore County Public Schools and had previously held a similar position with Carroll County Public Schools, passed away from sarcoma complications. The resident of Sykesville is 58 years old.

According to Ms. Spencer, who gave Ms. Murray credit for “personal outreach to boost the number and variety of participating schools,” the school system altered so that the student member of the school board is now chosen by the votes of all middle and high school students. She worked very hard to enhance BCPS’s volunteer training and celebrations as well as add additional student learning to the curriculum.
