Manchester United responds to the removal of a sizable Cristiano Ronaldo mural.

Before this weekend’s Rugby League World Cup, Manchester United removed a sizable mural of Cristiano Ronaldo from the front of Old Trafford and replaced it with Rugby League World Cup logos.

On the day the first segment of Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan is set to air, cranes were at United’s stadium to assist with the removal of the Ronaldo poster from the Old Trafford forecourt.

However, it is believed that the poster was always scheduled to be taken down this week because the stadium will host the men’s and women’s Rugby League World Cup finals on Saturday.

Branding will now be displayed on the enormous area above the megastore at the forecourt ahead of that showpiece final, with Australia and New Zealand meeting in the women’s final at 1.15pm and Australia facing Samoa in the men’s final at 4pm.

Pictures of the poster of Ronaldo being torn down have attracted attention after it emerged he had given an incendiary interview to Piers Morgan, which will air in full across Wednesday and Thursday night on TalkTV.
