Onishi’s older brother Yoshimi, who runs the Fujisawa ramen joint Uzutokaminari, also made the following statement on Twitter: “Yuki owed a lot of people money during his life. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart on his behalf. In order to spare his parents’ fragile bodies and brains extra stress, he added that the funeral was a private family event.
In a statement to The Sunday Times, Brian Chua, CEO of Tsuta Global, claimed that Chef Yuki “dedicated his life to the pursuit of ramen excellence, as he continually thought of ways to improve the taste of his ramen.” He once told me that his life’s work was to find the one, unique taste that would make him stand out from the crowd.
